well since my last post there has been a lot happen in my life, firstly the collection is mostly gone, i now have a couple of spydies, the shoki, 3 uk legal folders and my custom Guycep that is all that is left; reason being is I got a new job.... I over reached and got into a lot of trouble to which my parents bailed me out - although this did not stop the company coming back saying I owed them another month because I paid my debt to them!!!!

I also ended up losing my other job as i was completely stressed out all the time, almost had a full on mental break down as I took on another job and worked double shifts 6am to 10pm each day all the way through christmas. although everything is starting to fall back into place now, I have secured a new job, 2 year contract and a very decent wage.

I also have a bit of an obsession with the gym and do quite a bit of strength work now. I have also just bought a track bike which is being modified constantly to make it 100% perfect, already started on the drive train, rear has been taken down to a 13t dura-ace cog, saddle and grips have been replaced. next step is the bars to make it a bit stiffer maybe carbon - although it all depends on strength, also plan to replace the bottom bracket and cranks.

Although I have already decided that most of the money will go on a full custom bike. I already found the frame and carbon forks - wheels will be carbon deep section rims, front brake only, deep drops, carbon seat post, SRAM omnium crankset and BB, with a 52tooth ring, with NJS chain and a 14 and 16tooth on the rear hub. I have even picked the colour scheme, pedals, shoes and saddle already..... I am budgeting a fair while for this one to be completed. going to be a case of getting it part by part, may have to start with the frame and fork first.

I have also planned a few rides for this year, theres one as a group which is 60 miles (although I live 12miles from the start) as well as planning a few excursions, definite' one is to family in Essex which is a 100 mile ride, so going to ride there and then home the next day as its a bleeding long way. I am also hoping to ride in a velodrome in the summer.

So all in all a lot has happened in this year, hopefully I will give either daily or weekly updates on how everything is going.

I was lucky to get to have one for a 2week period, I must say its well built but its not to my taste...

Most already know about this knife, its got an S30V blade, Titanium frame lock, is built like a brick outhouse. its made to be used and used hard. Although the overall look and feel of the knife does not warrant the price, while it was with me i seemed to always go for my native instead.

One of my favourites, it fits the hand well, is nice to use and takes a very very keen edge. It oozes class, its only a little knife with a 2.9" blade but the blue ti liners with the fileworked spine and nak-lock just work perfectly. G10 Bolsters with Winewood finish the knife off.

Damascus Blade, Cocobolo scales, this little folder is a thing of beauty. Cuts really well with the VG10 core and damasteel sides. Good little cutter with liner lock, its a nice smooth opener, Its definitely a gentlemans folder.

The native is perfection... it fits the hand very well is comfortable, light, looks good and takes an extremely sharp edge.

Engineered for the human hand, the Native's ergonomic design maximizes cutting ability while minimizing discomfort and fatigue. This model is all about combining performance and comfort. Since the portion of the knife most in contact with the user is the handle, that became key while the model was in initial development on the drawing table. We've created a handle pattern with two separate finger choils. The first choil (where the blade and handle meet) allow positioning the index finger closer to the knife's sharpened edge for control over the cutting surface. Behind the first choil, the second positions the hand farther back on the folder for dexterous cutting while pushing the blade away from you. Bi-Directional Texturing molded into the FRN handle form varying levels of steps minimizing forward or backward sliding. Carved out of the locking lever is a David Boye Dentinsuring the lock remains safely engaged even when gripping the handle forcefully. A section of non-sharpened serrations line the blade's spine yield an additional slip resistant point for the thumb. The blade itself is hollow-ground CPM-S30V steel with a weight reducing swedge ground from the spine. It has become the one knife I always reach for. Very well done to Sal for producing such a knife.

This is a military knife, made in italy it was a quick impulse buy.... still not sure why i bought it...

It didnt have too good an edge but it was easily given an edge by using a strop. thick aluminium scales and a liner lock. Tanto-ish point.

Cold Steel SRK

Its big, black and made from Carbon-V steel, its the first proper fixed blade i have had and tried out.

Its proved quite good, it takes and keeps a good edge, although its rubbish at using a firesteel. The black coating is good and strong, the handles comfortable and grippy.

Used for general cutting tasks, making a feather stick and some food prep.

Well a lot to update people on, I think my collection for the moment anyway is complete. plus 2 knives that I am awaiting delivery of.

On order i have a Guycep Neckmuk (a small nessmuk) and a Guycep Shadow, which is going to be made to my specs :D

At the moment, I have a few write ups and reviews to do. Which include one for the CS SRK, a kissing crane Black Angus and what has quickly become the ONE, the Benchmade Shoki... this knife is just about as good as it gets in terms of knives. Blued ti liners, Black G10 and winewood scales, S30V blade one of the best locks i have ever seen as well.

Oh and I am working now lol

Still need to do the write ups for my custom pieces but that will happen in time just rather busy at the moment ;)

The clip point, flat ground blade is 4116 Stainless and has a tumbled / stonewash finish, nothing special but it came impressively shaving sharp. Nice to see that it is supported on phosphor bronze washers considering this is an economy model. Cutting edge is 4" and just over 1/8" thick.

I do like this knife its very well built even tho it cost under £20, its designed to be abused. it has made its way in to my pack as a back up or as a sole knife. its got a lot of charm in such a simple set up.

well no sign of the native yet, should be here soon.. hopefully

the SRK arrived its a really nice knife, heavy and tough just what i was after, has a good edge as well.

Shoki will be ordered out of my first wage packet, but Moon has dropped me in it and shown me some SOG knives, which did quite take my fancy in particular the SOG Vulcan and mini vulcan particularly the Tanto version .

Will post pics of the new ones on friday, been at work today and got a hard day tomorrow ;)

well i need to update this, will update properly tomorrow.

Quick Rundown:

I got the job, should hopefully be working more than the minimum 12hours a week, i would do 8hour days but i doubt anyone could manage it... so should be doing 4-5 4hour days a week. (10 an hour aint bad)

New purchases,

CS Pocket Bushman, its in my bugout pouch now its really simple and strong...
Spyderco Native should be here anytime soon, sweet little knife in S3oV
CS SRK big knife in CarbonV (very rare now) i was going to go for an A1 or S1 from fallkniven, size was an issue but this blade shapes are all similar, the S1 is about 5 1/2" and the A1 is about 6 1/2" the SRK sits perfectly in the middle at 6"

theres also a special one a Guycep Nessmuk in the necker format, got a while before it arrives as it is not made yet ;-)

Only other knife I want to buy this year is the Benchmade Shoki, other than that i am completely done, not anything else i really want to get my grubby hands on

So my sources supplier let her down, so she cant get some of the knives at the prices they were.

But shes still doing most at a brilliant price, so i am still going to go for a native just trying to work out whether to go for the original or the Native 3, i guess its going down to which steel...

The CS bushman should be here very soon as it has been sent - I also have a few designs to make up and a write up on my Bowie which is now finished :D

Going to start the Kiridashi on Monday, cant do anything on the Tuesday as i have a job interview.

Well after hearing soooo much about the SAK (Swiss army knife) i decided to take the plunge and bought a Spartan, Its one of the simplest in the range, although I do rather like the choice of tools, with a can opener, bottle opener, large and small knife, corkscrew, tweezers and toothpick, there is also a reemer (not too sure of the use of this tho.

Well overall its a lovely tool, very well made, although i do not like the colour scheme on this one... I ordered black but got sent a camoflage one... But i will try to sand it off to plain black if that fails i will replace the scales with something a little different, i have ideas for either wood or green/black micarta... may even go for carbon fibre if i can get some cheap.

Edit: I now have this in Black and Gave the camo version away as a prize

This is a strange one, never heard of the company but went out on a limb to get it as i liked the design, the colours are quite striking with the contrasting red and black, Out of the box this little knife was pretty sharp i have to admit i do not like the grind its a chisel ground blade which i have Issues with...... but sharpened it up to what i expect

This is a great knife and been a little project knife as well, the knife is a small lock back which has a laminated blade which looks really good, I decided to re-profile the edge so instead of a 20˚ edge it now has a thin and sharp convex edge, a quick strop returns the edge to a hair popping sharp edge.

its a rather elegant little folder being so simple and clean.

This is my favourite knife, it gets used more than any other I have, Primarily as its fun to flick open, also the ergonomics of the knife are amazing with the handles shape and blade shape,

The thin S30V blade takes a razor sharp edge and holds it extremely well. I have used this knife to do a huge number of tasks, From opening boxes, letters, packages, preparing food and even used it as a steak knife. It performs amazing well in any situation.

Well this was the biggest shocker of all, its the first Chinese Spydie made of a chinese steel, its proven its self to be an amazing knife, the blade shape handle shape and the liner lock are just about perfect.

This is the UK legal Spyderco, the one I have is in foliage green the blade is just under 3" and it is a slip joint knife, as locking knives are illegal to carry with out a very good reason.

Overall the knife is great its been used and abused the S30V blade holds a very keen edge, the handle shape is nice on the hands, the wire pocket clip almost vanishes when you clip it to a pocket as not to attract attention.

Biomechanics coursework DONE

now going to get on with the with revision...

Got the Super high grit sandpaper, going to get some wood treating stuff as well as some lower grit sandpapers, thinking about 60, 120, 220, 400, 600

i was told that 600 is as high as you should go on wood any higher it dont absorb the oil...

cant wait for february as then i can get on with my projects wohoo

oh yeah i also ordered a guycep necker, first custom i have ordered :D and the UKPK is on its way :D

New Years Update

Well there was a little mix up in my order, so i ended up getting an Endura instead of a UKPK.... but after a quick PM its all been cleared up and i will be getting a UKPK as soon as the young lady gets another in. Plus i get to keep the Endura (for free). I also got the Benchmade which i have been using LOADS and its proven to be one of the best knifes I have even seen or used. Edge holding is supreme, looks, sharpness, and just how damn comfortable it is to use, its completely none threatening as well (due to the sheepsfoot blade).

Firstly the Griptillian

simple lines extremely comfortable, very well made - plus its got a cool axis lock and very nice to use

The Endura

first impressions aside with it not only being the wrong knife and the fact its Pink... its quite nice, havent really played with it as i thought it would be going home but it did feel comfortable in the hand, the pink kinda kills the scary knife image away lol

plus its for breast cancer awareness with Sal donating money from every knife going to the trust. Will have a play with it tonight so i can write some more on it.

Bali Progress

Well i tried filling down the teak but it was taking too long and was annoying, after asking some advice people said use a craft knife to remove the bulk of the material. so i broke out the BM Griptillian, the knife made quick work of the Teak inserts as you can see from all the shavings in the picture.

they are shavings from all 8 inserts not just that one handle - that handle just shows one insert virtually finished, just need to smooth and polish then its al finished.

Progress on the Bali

so tonight i didnt have nothing to do so i thought i might as well do something productive - since i was bored

i decided to get the Bali sorted out - since i am still waiting on the sandpaper to finish the folder, and i cant really be using a dremel at this time of the night.

So here's what happened:

Sanded and Shaped the Teak so that they would fit into the corresponding holes, didnt take as long as i thought but it was a bit of a pain due to them needing to be a tight tight fit so you get a flush finish.

this is how it looked after i had them all sanded and gave them a dry fit

i decided to mark them as they do not all fit in the others holes, so a quick bit of masking and numbering and its all good

then i got the epoxy out its a 2-ton epoxy (i am guessing that means its strong) but it takes a while to cure and needs pressure to hold it together so it can truely bond to the materials.

since i hadnt worked with this before i took 10minutes to read and understand the instructions, mixed it up and got it on the teak then inserted them in to the correct holes.

as i dont have loads of clamps (i have 2 i think) but i got 8 inserts i decided to go high tech, 2 lumps of steel and a weight lol

next update will be tomorrow as i cant do anything for at least 6 hours and i dont think i will be up at 6 to do some more work on it

Didnt get all the things i wanted (well didnt get any of them) but what the hell its been a great day and been loads of fun,

My bits i ordered are going to be coming soon so then i will have my prezzies lol got a busy few weeks ahead of me now, got to fix the sisters computer tomorrow... then got to get all my crap together and finish off the coursework and make sure i do some hardcore revision cos i wanna get a good grade (oh yeah and finish off the bali, folder and the bowie)

well progress has ground to a halt... No info on the sandpaper as of yet, plus i kinda got a full house so its a bit difficult to get anything done.

So i decided to get myself organised, i got my days planed out for coursework and working out. As i need to get back in shape i decided to include working out in my days, so its going to be a busy holiday.

Well i plan on starting the working out tonight, and do a session every morning between 7 and 9-10am and 2 nights a week, its gonna be hard getting up but i am sure i can manage it, hopefully it will become second nature.

i got mainly cardio workouts, with 2-3 weights sessions a week so hopefully i can get a little bigger while losing weight.

I will keep people informed on how its going

The case and Progress

The Bali Blade is Uber sharp as i found out

This is the Display case i ordered, although i was expecting a black backing the red gives it a really nice contrast, as you can see all three of my projects are in the case.

Progress:

Little Folder 90% done. Just got to finish the sanding/polishing and loctite it all together (still waiting on sand paper)

Bali 75% complete, inserts need to be epoxied in place and shaped, the washers need to be changed to the Bronze Phosphorous ones. then loctited together

Bowie 40% done, this is by far the hardest are the 3. I still need to finish shaping the other bolster and peen the pins once thats done i need to fit the scales and then sand it super smooth and bring it all up with a polish. also need to fit the sheath and most likely die the sheath to make it match the cocobolo scales.

Just need to fix on the Inlays, using the Teflon washers at the moment but when i get the inlays sorted, in goes the Phosphorous Bronze washers and loctite

Just got to figure out whether to glue or fix them with screws????

The display case came aswell, I was expecting a black background but its red.. looks pretty good tho gives a decent contrast :D Just need the sand paper to finish the folder at the moment

ok so my legs are wrecked... was a test subject for my mates dissertation, had to do leg extensions:

started with a maximal voluntary contraction against a static bar (to work out force as it was hooked up to a computer)

then had to do 3 sets of 10 reps at 124kg

then 3 sets of 10 reps at 115kg

then 4 sets of 10 reps at 105kg

then another maximal contraction

My legs are now like jelly, i nearly fell down the stairs on the way out of uni, plus there was no trains in central london due to something happening so it took me over 2hours to get home when it usually only takes 40 minutes

Wohoo got the first of the packages today, the first half of the tsunami kit arrived, with the loctite and diamond bits

the walnut display case and blade should arrive very soon (hopefully tomorrow)

Just being held up waiting for sandpaper... or my little folder would of been done and finished now. oh well i got something else to play with now, its certainly more complicated than the folder as there are four handles 8 teak inlays, locking mechanism plus others.

I really want that bloody sandpaper.......

the weekend so far

Well the weekends been a bit crap really... was meant to go out last night but people cancelled (story of my life) so stayed home, hatton lost to mayweather seriously disappointing to say the least i wanted hatton to batter mayweather,

well today was crap today as well; i get woke up early as my uncles stupid and called me at 7am!!! then got dragged out to sort out the rest of the windows, we finished most of the stuff off yesterday but today we had to put up the trim round the edges use the foam stuff and then take the scaffold down... talk about killing off your sunday

decided to do some photoshop work, as i needed a sig... need to get some other bits and pieces sorted out.

hopefully i will be out partying tomorrow... but you never know

Thought I should fill people in, on where things are - at this moment in time, some might have seen the progress of these but i thought it would be better to post in here,

First lets start with my ever so small work shop

yeah thats it at the moment... theres also a Rotary tool (thanks to BB) the whole lot came to about £40

First Blade, My Custom Folder

Although this came as a kit its undergone quite a bit of modification.

specs:

Thats it when i first slapped it together the fit and finish wernt great at the time

After some work and some pictures it looked like this... then I got bored lol and decided that I didnt like the bead blasted look so I ripped it apart and decided to change it.

After some hard sanding I got it to this sort of finish

when i put it back together i noticed some things that I didnt like, they were a little knobbly bit sticking out when in the closed position. Plus there was a seam between the liners and scales which I thought looked ugly.

After some filing and sanding I got it to this finish

As you can see the liners and scales look like they are a single piece, I also did inside the liners at this point smoothing them down fully. eg no screws poking through

I also tackled the knobbly, if you look close you can see it in the black background picture in the bottom left corner

Its not really a massive issue for most people but I could feel it and knew it was there so it had to go

You can clearly see the better finish in that picture, i am just waiting on some 1200 grit sand paper then I will have this folder fully finished.

The Bowie

This is my personal favourite at the moment, its very very difficult due to the design and what i want to do....

Basically, fulltang bowie with vine file worked tang, with bolsters and cocobolo scales. so far I have the filework virtually done, one bolsters shaped the other is getting there.

Aint going to go through all the steps just a few clear ones, as this one I know exactly how it will look when done.

This is where I am at now, its going well considering I am doing this between studies and with mainly hand tools

Well where to start, I am mainly starting this as i often find myself bored out of my head with loads of ideas buzzing around...

I guess the obligatory about me section is needed, I am a student so I got loads of spare time on my hands... even tho I am a third year doing a degree in Sports Science, I have competed at world level but recently I have not been training or competing, reason being I got put on medication (roaccutane more specifically isotretinoin) basically it stopped me training as it caused my muscles to go extremely stiff and it took days to recover from a training session so my fitness levels dropped and I did actually get quite depressed. I finished the tablets about 3weeks ago and now I feel much better about myself and want to go and enjoy life.

The Hobbies, well I have a rather strange hobby and collection. I have been collecting swords for a while and have a pretty good collection, although with the change in laws the collection had to stop (although I personally think that my collection is perfectly balanced), since the new laws I got more into the smaller blades. Thus meaning Knives... I have a few production knives but since looking around and becoming familiar on a few forums I have started to make my own. Yes making my own custom knives, unsure about selling them as i am doing this as a hobby and quite honestly the skills need to improve a great deal first.

I will mainly be posting updates on what's going on with me, uni, my customs, etc. so expect loads of pictures, as I do have pretty strong views and opinions - I hope I do not offend anyone with my views.
